1/4" mic input?! Are you playing in Carnegie Hall?

Just kidding. It sounds to me like you are trying to use a musician mic with a PC sound card. That will not work. PC sound cards expect a capacitive or condenser mic element, which is what is inside of PC mics and headsets. Try borrowing a PC headset or mic from a friend and see if it works with your system before troubleshooting further.

lol i have a firebox external sound card... and it has all 1/4" inputs so that mean i have to find 1/4" capable headsets and there isn't any. lol

i use this sound card for a .003 second delay for my music recording purposes...that i havent done in a while lol

my instrument mic is the only mic that works...i've even tried adapters for pc headsets going from 1/8 to 1/4" into my sound card but seems like no luck....

thanks for your thoughts on this subject...

Have you tried using a desktop mic stand. They hold a vocal mic and are used for recording. The height can be adjusted from about 1-2 feet. You can find them at most music stores. Then you dont have to pick up the mic but you still have to push V to talk.

but you can pick up an x-fi card for $35 - $40. Headset for $10-$150 depending on your preference. I believe you'll like and benefit from it. My headset gives spatial differentiation without costing an arm and a leg. I would recommend the purchase.
