FACT: Kim Jong-Il bowled a 300 the first time he ever bowled.

http://www.gonrad.com/201004/kim-jong-il-smiling.jpg

FACT: On his first ever trip to the golf course, he shot 38-under par, including 5 hole-in-ones! This is reported by the government controlled media. He routinely shoots 3 or 4 hole-in-ones every time out.

FACT: Kim Jong-Il's solution to end North Korea's hunger problem is to breed giant rabbits. So he got some of them and was going to fly in a European specialist to set up a breeding farm, but before that happened, he ended up eating them all himself for his birthday instead.

http://www.gonrad.com/201004/giant-rabbit3.jpg

FACT: According to North Korean textbooks, Kim Jong-Il's birth caused rainbows to appear in the sky, and he also doesn't defecate like normal humans.

FACT: Kim Jong-Il's father, Kim Il-Sung, outlawed bicycles because he was afraid that his citizens would flee the country.

FACT: In order to conserve electricity, the elevator in North Korean apartments operates twice per day: it goes down once in the morning, and goes up once in the afternoon after work.

FACT: North Korea was building a hotel in Pyongyang in the 80s, but they ran out of money so they let it sit there for the last 20 years unfinished. Citizens are not allowed to talk about the hotel or acknowledge its existence, even though it can be clearly seen in the skyline:

http://www.gonrad.com/201004/ryugyong-hotel-pyongyang-north-korea.jpg

Also, notice the crane on top. North Korean engineers cannot figure out how to get the crane down, so they left it there.

FACT: You would hit these North Korean women's army soldiers:

http://www.gonrad.com/201004/847642178_7d47e09728.jpg

FACT: To conserve electricity, North Korean doesn't use traffic lights. Instead, they have "traffic ladies" stand in the middle of intersections and direct traffic:

Too bad there aren't many cars on the roads to direct:

Sometimes people ride their bikes on the highways:

There is a great illusion people have about NK. Kim Jong Il and his son are not the ones in power, its the military and the socialist party elite that is in power. It's like in every dictatorship regime ever had its time on earth, its the core group of military and elites that keep the system going. Kim doesn't have a whole lot of time left, some think he might not make it past end of the year. However, it won't stop the government when he eventually dies. They spent the last 50 years endoctrinating the entire nation into believing one person is the sole leader, when in fact, it's the core group of people around Kim and his sons that run the country. When Kim dies, there will be a massive state funeral and his son will become the new leader, while the powers behind him will most likely be the head of socialist party and leaders of the military.

FACT: Apartments in North Korea have speakers that play propaganda 24/7. You can turn the volume down, but you can never turn them off.

The hotel:

The hotel, the distinctive shape of which utterly dominated the skyline, was often Photoshopped out of pictures. Tour guides and many officials sheepishly ignored it, having collectively decided that this is going to be the one thing about their country they are going to be embarrassed about.

Wait, it Gets Worse...

Last year, Orascom Telecom, an Eypgtian telecommunications company, agreed to pick up the bill to at least make the hotel look finished, because they are setting up North Korea's first 3G network (of which there will be likely one user) and are using the structure as a signal tower.
Meanwhile the "hotel" has a 2012 completion date, at which point we expect they will announce that it is simply "too popular to take open reservations."

According to World War Z, they'll be the only ones to survive the impending zombie outbreak (presumably) unscathed.

During the Great Panic, South Korean intelligence officials noticed that the population of North Korea was disappearing. There were suddenly no North Korean spies, less and less border troops at the DMZ and Panmunjom, and less and less farmers and "volunteer workers" working outside. This culminated in every North Korean vanishing from the face of the Earth. It is believed that they all went underground, into the labyrinth of tunnels under the country. Whether or not they remained safe from infection is unknown, as the North Korean border is so booby-trapped against invasion with automated "revenge weapons" that no-one is willing to take the chance to go in a find out, except for the South Korean Intelligence Ministry. It is left an open question what happened to the North Korean people, but there are two scenarios: The first is that the North Korean leadership convinced them that the surface world was utterly overrun with zombies, forcing them to stay in an underground empire where their leaders exert greater control over them than ever before. The other scenario is that zombies were able to infiltrate their bunker complexes and infect all of them, resulting in over 20 million zombies bottled up underground, waiting to be let loose by the unwary. http://forums.offtopic.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

FACT: in 1978, Kim Jong-Il had South Korean director Shin-Sang-ok and his actress wife Choe Eun-hui kidnapped in order to force them to make movies for him. When they finally escaped in 1986 they reported that Mr. Il's personal film library contains 15,000 movies, his favorites being "Friday the Thirteenth," " Rambo" and "James Bond."

I have to disagree with the WWZ coment. No one knew if north Korea surivrd at all because they went into the caves. And if you read the book France had the sane kind of problem clearing out the tunnels in Paris. It's dangerous work and they just haven't gone to NK yet in the book.

It's funny becuase in all the sting tag does is make the text following it bold. But they have the text following the strong tag in about size 10.

They could have saved a few bytes just put the bold tag in. Or better yet set up a good css. But no one cares about the W3C anyways. Right?
