  1. Adventures in electricity.

    Some of you may have noticed I haven't been in game much over the last couple weeks. The reason being, I have been working on renovating 3 rooms in my house. New paint, blinds, lighting (ceiling fans), carpet (being installed today) and new outlets, switches and plates. I bought the outlets, switches and plates at Home Depot earlier this week and finally had time to sit down and get them installed. I'm no stranger to minor electrical work. Growing up, I helped my uncle do a lot of electrical work around my parents' house. Since I bought the house I live in, I've replaced almost every lighting fixture in the house and also replaced outlets in several rooms. So I figured an hour, maybe two and I could knock out the 3 switches and 13 outlets. ...

  2. Oh bother.

    I knew I was approaching 10,000 posts, and somehow managed to totally miss it... again. At any rate, I had a post all worked up in my head and now that I blew the chance, I figured I'd go ahead and blog it.

    I've been a PC gamer for what seems forever. I got my first PC in 1985. Technically, it was purchased so my dad could bring work home, but that didn't last long. At the time, this was high tech. IBM PC. 4.77 MHz 8088 processor, 640k RAM (640k is all anyone will ever need, right Bill?), Dual 360k 5.25" Floppies (FTW!), Hercules CGA adapter, and a 13" Princeton COLOR CGA monitor.   3. Getting BF2CC and 2142CC working correctly under Windows 7

    As many of you know, BF2CC and 2142CC, the utilities we use to manage our Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 servers, have issues running under Vista & Windows 7. BF2CC complains about .NET Framework 1.1 not being installed. 2142CC has an issue with the .NET Framework installed by default; the player tab does not update.

    For BF2CC, you can install .NET Framework 1.1 with instructions found here, but .NET Framework 1.1 has security vulnerabilities and cannot be patched using Windows Update.

    If you've got Windows 7 Professional or Enterprise, you can get "XP Mode". This is fine; however the version of .NET Framework included with XP Mode, has the same issues for 2142CC.
