I keep hearing about being able to turn the public voip option on, which is a server side command. Think we could play around with that and get it working, so we don't have to putz around with fireteams?

This. Public voip (ie team voip) is off by default.

The launch went VERY poorly... but after patching the game has become better... at least so I've been told. I don't have $50 to spend on a game at the moment... or I'd probably buy it.
