Basically when we publish an article it now posts a topic automatically, and if you reply here it adds it to the comments of the article, and vice versa.

No, im not following what the article is covering. Settings edit profile, well I guess that is for our site here, but getting the steam ID, well there is a little lack on that part. Basically, this program is not idiot proof.

Well, if those guys in red would fix the image limitations, and give us the ability to change authors, I am sure we could get all of our articles back if it weren't for the fact that bunni killed TTP.

Oh actually if I want to edit other fields (xfire/bf2/etc), it complains about a blank Steam ID (not the community ID)

for the gamercard, you have to put in your steam name (like mine is bigdogttp) according to your steam link.

      http://steamcommunity.com/id/bigdogttp

      see?

it's not a bunch of numbers, or anything even close to being your steamID. I suppose you could try and put in all those crazy numbers...but all you have to do to get a proper steam link is login to your steam community page, go to your profile, and set up a name for yourself. Simple stuff.

entering your actual STEAM ID (like mine: STEAM_0:1:4160689 ) is for our stats/slots stuff. If we can get the game icons like we had previously, linking to hlstats and such, we'll make these things overlap like we had on TTP. but for now...at least it's something.

again, steam community ID (ex: bigdogttp) is NOT your steamID, or your steam community/group (ex: teamplayers). K?

to get your steam community ID, simply log into steam, and set it up. you just haven't given yourself a name for steam to make a link out of.

      make it

I dunno if you read my original post or my edited one. The problem now is if I Just want to put my bf2stats or whatever, the form doesn't like a null SteamID and complains.

To answer your original reply though:
Why make it complicated? The SteamID and Steam CommunityID can be calculated from each other. If you have one, you can calculate the other, and your steam profile is located at http://http://steamcommunity.com/pro...eamCommunityID

Let X and Y be defined by the Steam ID: STEAM_0:X:Y
      SteamCommunityID = Y*2 + 76561197960265728 + X
Individual Steam accounts can only have values of X which are 0 or 1.
Basic number theory tells us that if SteamCommunityID is even then X = 0 and if SteamCommunityID is odd then X = 1.
You can autopopulate one of the fields depending on which one is entered. And you should always be able to reach someone's Steam Profile via their SteamCommunityID, regardless of if they have a "Custom URL" set or not. I put in my numerical SteamCommunityID last week (before the wipe) and it worked fine (of course lots of people got confused about which number to put but that's not really the issue).

Again, getting back on topic, I cannot edit my bf2stats field without putting in a SteamID form complains that it is null.

the validation forum shouldnt even load if you do not click to edit the steam field. Your saying that clicking on the bf2field saving, brings up the steamid field saying its invalid?
