Company of Heroes: Possible if bad at real-time strategy?
I recently tried the demo of Company of Heroes and was very impressed. I'm a fan of Dawn of War, and seeing the depth of management in Company of Heroes made it look pretty attractive. The problem is that I'm not that good at RTS games (Been playing Dawn of War on easy difficulty so far) and it takes a long time for me to get much skill at them. And Company of Heroes is known for being very difficult.
So, from someone who's played the bulk of Company of Heroes, is it possible to get the hang of the game after a while or is it just too punishing overall?

Re: Company of Heroes: Possible if bad at real-time strategy?
I really liked Company of Heroes, but there was simply way too much micromanagement. At first, it seemed like a great game, but after a while, I realized that I am either too slow, or the game was just too complicated. I lost nearly every multiplayer game that I played. I preferred Command and Conquer to this game, even though Company of Heroes had superior graphics, effects, and physics.
Not saying it isn't worth the buy... just saying the multiplayer will be frustrating.

I really like CoH. I play it a lot on the weekdays with my friends. Its easy to understand the game after you do the tutorial and play some of the single player levels. Play against your computer on a skrimish and chose the computers level of diffuculty. After a while of that, like a week or two, you get the hang of it and you understand it more. You also figure out what to do first before the next thing. If you want help xfire me.

while i found the game fun, something about it just didn't click with me *shrugs*. It can be complicated at times, never played online though.
I still perfer WIC to COH but both are good games. if i recall i think there is a demo you can download if you want to check it out.

Oh, it's actually the same way in Dawn of War (An RTS I like). There are points all over the map that you control to get resources, there just aren't supply lines so you don't have to worry about having a clear line to your base.

speaking of rts like games, should try tropico. Its more of a city building game per say but still awesome! the download for Tropico 3 is out

Can't say how challenging it is not having gone through the story. But from what i had played it was challenging but i think someone not good at RTS's could survive. Multi-player i think would be extremely hard though (just from playing a skirmish or w.e. game they call it against the CPU). As for comparable from playing the demo of DoW, i think CoH is harder.

I have been playing COH for as long as its been out more or less. I think its great. I have not tried the latest expansion but I've played against friends who have the upgraded units. They're meh. I think there is a lot of single player fun but the best fun is playing against friends or with them against the CPU.

Re: Company of Heroes: Possible if bad at real-time strategy?
Definitely fun playing with buddies against a few CPUs.
.....but, nothing compares to multiplayer on that game. Extremely competitive and mentally demanding. 4 vs 4 on the larger maps can be pretty damn insane...
