Steam Spyware
So yea it`s easy to be popular when you force users to use your application.Fact is the only way steam can get people to use thier app. is to discount games. Truth is if steam sold games that didn`t force people to use thier application than it would never be used.
The only thing Steam has going for it and it`s spy ware forced application is the free to play games and prices that sometimes competes against amazon.com but rarely.
I mean really I buy a game from you so Im infected with your software everytime I want to play that game .Now how cheap is that.
Sure I love to buy games from you but wtf is up with having to use your software to run the games .Screw that no one will make me use software I dont want to use .
Now if Steam was a option and not a forced spyware application that I must use if I spend money on full games I honestly might consider it a damn good communication tool but it is force ware, spy ware at best and is not a comsumers decision at this time.
Personal note to steam
Make your software optional ,not viral .Clean your finger tips because your prices arent that good.

Re: Steam Spyware
That statement is so backwards.Truth is if steam sold games that didn`t force people to use thier application than it would never be used.
Steam is a digital distribution system...just like any other. That's it's purpose.

Re: Steam Spyware
Steam is a store yes but the only one that forces you to use thier software .Would be one thing to have the option but no they force you.
I dont know anything about origin and onlive .You brought them up not me.
Stay on topic
Question stands name one game you pay full price for in steam that doesn`t require you run steam.
Require thats the point stop redirecting the issue.
No where does steam state to it`s customers that it`s application is required to run along side all purchased games via it`s store.
A purchase is a purchase and any extra software should be the customers decision to use.

Re: Steam Spyware
lol....Steam didn't even HAVE a store, when it launched...and, no....Origin and Onlive force you to do the EXACT same thing. Why aren't you complaining about them, as well? You're about nine years late on the "I hate Steam" argument. Steam isn't perfect, but it does what it's intended to do....and it does it well.

Re: Steam Spyware
Yes, steam is required to run games bought through steam, but they also provide a platform for you to talk to your friends organize games. They allow you to install games purchased on any machine and pretty much give you instant access to purchased content. It is in no way shape or form spyware, as they will allow you to opt out of sending in hardware information, and you could choose not to buy games through steam, or valve games. The problem with this would be that games like Portal 2 are awesome. Steam is not nearly as bad a Origin, and I for one love purchasing games through steam as I don't have to keep track of disks or keys and I get access to my games anywhere I want, on a platform where I can talk with my friends.
As with anything in the modern world, vote with your feet, if you don't like it don't buy anything with it. Otherwise this is just trolling.

Sure but do they notify you that it is required you use thier application while playing any game that you payed for thru thier store?
No ,My point it should be stated and also be a option to customers that pay for games thru steams store .

Re: Steam Spyware
Guyver's point, and it is a valid one, is that all online distribution systems require you to use there programs to access purchased content. Now Steam allows you to opt out of auto updating and you can put icons in your start menu or on your desktop. However, I honestly do not understand your complaint, if you do not like steam then buy physical copies and avoid any Valve game.
