When did they start handing out tin foil at MIT?
So, where are all of our resident experts that said only people who have been abducted by aliens believe this crap?
Next Great Depression? MIT researchers predict
Not saying it will happen, but I do find it...ironic, if that is the right word for it, that according to many on this site only unintelligent people would believe that a massive economic collapse would be possible.

If it happened once, there's no reason to believe that it won't or can't happen again.

Who would ever claim that another depression is impossible? Hell, we barely avoided falling into another depression after Bush.

Did you read the article? This study is about how, unless we we drastically adjust our demand on resources, we're going to run out. This isn't about banking fraud.

Oh, so we will run out of food, but everything will be fine because we will have plenty of cash still?

No, it absolutely wouldn't be fine, but those quotes are from a completely different topic, so stop pretending that they apply.
This is what Fov was responding to:
And he was absolutely correct. Economic downturns like the one that we experienced, or even the great depression, are far from doomsday. The Wyoming bill that that article, and those quotes were from is idiotic, and wouldn't apply to this kind of scenario. A Wyoming currency isn't going to have any effect in a global collapse like the one described in this article.
The solution isn't right-wing wackiness, its good old American left-wing environmentalism and economic regulations. From the Smithsonian article:
it's also important to note that this guy isn't exactly the mainstream either. What makes him an outlier instead of a tinfoil-hat wearing nutjob is that he's backing up his possibly wild claims with solid facts and hard science. However, the study also noted that unlimited economic growth was possible, if governments forged policies and invested in technologies to regulate the expansion of humanity’s ecological footprint.
