I'm suprised you didn't start with Connecicut and how they gave blacks a raise in pay and position simply because they were black, rejecting the results of a exam to determine who the positions should go to.

I think initially following the civil war, maybe organizations such as the NAACP were needed to transition into a society where people could integrate, but it has come to the point that organizations today such as the NAACP are to the detriment of efforts to make us a color blind society.
Does racism exist today? Absolutely. Is it strictly whites hating on blacks or solely vice-versa? Nope. Racism will be an issue on this planet until the day comes when we're all dead.
Having laws that require you to have a certain percentage of workers that are of a certain race is racism in itself. We live in a society where everyone feels the need to victimize groups. If something unfair happens to ________, we make them a victim of some non-existent hate, because a person of a different ethnicity got something instead of a person who is from _______ background.
The idea of racial equality is nice, but until we understand that we can't approach it with the "Well you owe me this because we suffered 200, 300, 1000 years ago", we aren't going anywhere. If we stopped "keeping score racially" and started with a clean slate, we could be well on our way to something great. But alas ignorance and bigotry are the enemy of this idea.

I support Affirmative Action to a degree. I also agree that groups like the NAACP can go over the top at times. That said, while we all, regardless of race or ethnicity, may be equal in the eyes of the law, we are still not close to being equal in opportunities. Just look at the poverty rates. The U.S. average is 13.2% of people under the poverty line, yet 24.7% of African-Americans live in poverty compared to only 8.6% of white people.

And it is not just about race, either, but also gender. You are not going to break the cycle by maintaining the status quo. It's just not gonna happen.

Re: Affirmative action, NAACP, NCF, and other minority helps...
I just found an article, I followed the case on tv.
The 5-4 decision, which Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote for the majority, leaves intact the portion of the law that New Haven used to invalidate the examination after no black applicants scored high enough to qualify for promotion. But analysts said the decision could raise the standard that employers must meet in the future to reject test results in similar circumstances.
http://www.courant.com/news/connecti...,4824581.storyThe U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday that 20 white New Haven firefighters who were denied promotion were victims of illegal racial discrimination. But while critical of New Haven for using "raw, racial statistics" to invalidate a promotional examination, the court stopped short of ordering broad changes to race-and-hiring law sought by the firefighters and their supporters.........
