Thread: National IPA day!

  1. #1

    National IPA day!

    Today is National IPA Day!
IPADay.Org | The Universal Celebration of Craft Beer

The term pale ale originally denoted an ale which had been brewed from pale malt.[2] The pale ales of the early 18th century were lightly hopped and quite different from later pale ales.[3] By the mid-18th century, pale ale was mostly manufactured with coke-fired malt, which produced less smoking and roasting of barley in the malting process, and hence produced a paler beer.[4] One such variety of beer was October beer, a pale well-hopped brew popular among the landed classes, who brewed it domestically; once brewed it was intended to cellar two years.[5]

Anything over 50 IBU is too bitter ofr my taste typically. This rules out most IPA obviously.

Here's to some malty golden ale on this IPA day!

Ibu's aren't the be all end all of defining bitterness. It still comes down to the combination of flavors.

    Believe me, I know

But IPA's are all bitter to me. Some people are more sensitive to bitter (especially super tasters). I am a pretty good chef ya know.

    >50 IBU is usually too much for me. there are a couple of exceptions, but I don't remember the names, just being surprised (still too floral in most cases... IPA's are so hoppy; I am not a hop-head).

Never actually had a German, hef. I feel like Widmer pioneered what Americans think of as hef. My brother said when he was overseas that real hef is not American hef. The widmer unfiltered is very palletable.

Ah! An IPA I like.. Steelhead's Bombay Bomber (Eugene, Or.)

Although when they mix the Amber with unfiltered Bombay Bomber (1/2 & 1/2) it is an awesome pour. A-Bomb they called it... ahh the good old days.

I assumed everyone knew as I change my Avatar once every few years. Back in the A-Bomb days it was MeatHammer though.
