Thread: PC HDMI to TV

    PC HDMI to TV

    Alright so here's the situation.

First, I have a laptop with HDMI that after toying with the screen resolution / etc works perfectly with my TV.

Second, I have a media center PC with HDMI (Radeon HD 4300 gfx card - with built in sound) again it works when I hook it up to the TV but here's the catch: it only works with the tv when I have the PC hooked into a monitor via DVI as well. I duplicate the monitors and I have sound / picture on the tv, and picture on the monitor. I disable the monitor / only try to show the stuff on the TV and I get "Signal not supported." Re-enable the monitor / plug it back in and the TV works perfectly again. I just don't get it and it's starting to make me crazy. I installed the Catalyst control center and tried enabling various TV settings on catalyst including IST maybe? (Something to do with onboard graphics in the TV processing the video instead of the computer's graphics card)

Any ideas? I obviously don't want to keep the monitor plugged into the tv, since that's the monitor for my gaming rig and I'd like to not have to carry it from room to room in order to watch a movie off my computer.

Have you tried making your TV the primary device? Sounds like it is mirrored. Need to have it extend to the TV.

Primary device in what, device properties, or as a monitor? It's already set as the primary monitor.

Or at least I think it's set as the primary monitor.

I've got dvi comp monitor, and HDMI running to my tv both from my video card. I have to manually switch between the two in the display settings on the control panel.
Sent from my HD7 using Board Express

Tried all the display settings I could think of and I've had nothing work yet except for when I'm duplicating the two hooked into the PC.

at this point I would have, and have before, just switched to a DVI to HDMI adapter and ran DVI out to the HDMI port.

Obviously that doesn't get you sound, but a composite cable or 3.5mm to composite audio cable will work.

But I don't want to spend more money for a solution that should work, although I've thought about it as well.

Try connecting the TV, making sure the TV is set to Recieve 1080p/60 and your Computer is set to Send out 1080p/60 or Whatever it both the TV and Card can handle. Also Try Rebooting with the TV connected and on. Also try screaming at the top of your lungs "why wont you work!"

I've tried that too, with threats of bats, steel toed boots, and tasers.

    Re: PC HDMI to TV

Try this with only the HDMI cable from computer into TV (no dvi...)

Computer Off (not sleep, standby... OFF)
    Turn TV on
Make sure TV is set for the HDMI input that you have running
    Turn on Computer

You computer may activate "HDMI only" when it sees there's a valid HDMI destination. Your TV may not be telling your computer/HDMI input that unless it's on and on the correct source.

    What video card/driver you using?
