Deja Vu Minnesota?
Yes, I get it, everybody wants to have the joy of professional sports franchises, but nobody really wants to pay for them, much like almost everything else in life. That being said didn't you guys/gals learn your lesson when you lost the North Stars? You then almost immediately build a new arena and beg for a second chance? Don't let the same crap happen again with the Vikings.

Re: Deja Vu Minnesota?
Actually the North Stars left because the owner was going to be charged with sexual misconduct or something along those lines. So instead of staying here he packed up and left town before anything official could happen to him. He used the guise of a new arena to cover up the real reason why he left.
People up here are just being fucking stupid when it comes to this. Those that are for the stadium want it passed through the legislature soon so that work can start asap and we could minimize the time we play at TCF Bank stadium. Those against are only against it because of 2 things. Firstly they dont want to use a large amount of public money to fund the stadium. With the current bill in the state house, the Wylfs are going to be paying 350-400 millioin of the proposed deal. That is the second highest amount paid by an owner for a stadium, first is obviously Jerry Jones. The league is going to kick in some money as well, i think 150 million. So over half of the proposed funding will be paid by the Wylfs and the league with the location that they have chosen, right next to the Metrodome at an approximate cost of 900 million. The second reason why they are against is because the Vikings havent exactly had great seasons the last 2 years and people are like "Why should we pay to keep a shitty team?" This is complete bullshit because in the 50+ years this team has been here they have a winning record against every divisional opponent, have won the NFC Championship 4 times, won the division a handful of times as well, but havent won a superbowl sadly. Shit part of the deal is that if they leave people here are going to be begging to get another team here and its going to cost us 1.4 billion (i think thats what the expansion cost is now). So the state is going to have spend 500 million more dollars (at least) to get another team here in the future. Stupid fucking Minnesota politics.

Re: Deja Vu Minnesota?
That was more my point Duddy. If/when they vote no the Vikings will move, likely to LA. The very next day people will push a vote through to get a new stadium just for the hope of picking up a new football team. It will end up costing more. For proof just look at the Rams, Texans, Ravens, and Colts. All 4 cities had teams, let them leave, then did exactly what they refused to do just to get a team back. Dumb.

Re: Deja Vu Minnesota?
Problem is though that the opponents of the bill are 100% convinced the Vikings are going to stay here if they dont get a deal. With i had some of what they were drinking then.

Re: Deja Vu Minnesota?
Wilf was already flirting with San Antonio a few years back when he bought the team. He doesn't care where he puts his billion dollar stadium as long as the city/state pays 40-50% of it.

Re: Deja Vu Minnesota?
The Houston deal was more of a fuck you Bud Adams. Just a few years earlier he pulled the same shit and the city spent millions on upgrading the Astrodome to keep the Oilers here. About 7 years later he wanted more. (And before you say it Yes the Astrodome was not a good place to play football)

Re: Deja Vu Minnesota?
Yep.
This has been a fucking circus from day 1.
First, we have the PERFECT site for the best stadium the NFL has ever seen. 10 minutes North of downtown Minneapolis at an old Army Ammo plant (gov't owned land that the feds need to clean up anyway....byproducts of being an ammo plant). Room enough to build a huge stadium surrounded by parking lots (incredibly important, and one of the main reasons we hate the Dome) and a complete shopping/eating/retail area (year-round income that has been dubbed "Ziggy Town" after Vikes owner Ziggy Wilf).
But no......
The Mayor of the biggest town (Minneapolis), and current home of the Queens, needs to make the pitch for his city. Within two weeks, the Governor is swinging from his man sausage, and now they decide to put the place back downtown....the WORST of all possible places for football. Downtown = 0 Tailgating. Fuck that....I'll watch from home.
Now, at the last second, we have a bunch of bleeding-hearts who are doing nothing but grandstanding. I still don't think the Vikes are going anywhere (especially since they are already talking about another vote yet this session), but I am certain we will royally eff this thing up, and be paying for it until the end of time. They will put it downtown, and it will blow ass, and the taxpayers will still be taxed for it long after it's paid for....it's become a tradition around here.
And Civil.....Duddy had it nailed about the North Stars. Norm Greed was in some pretty hot water for some sexual things he was doing/trying to do with his secretary. The last couple of years were all sell-outs, and included a run for the cup. The games were being attended, and getting a new rink built is easy shit around here.....Hell, we built the Gophers a freaking palace.

Re: Deja Vu Minnesota?
Yes, Bud Adams was a dick. However, all of these teams want to blame the owner, draw the line in the sand, and say we aren't going to pay for it. Then when the asshole owner, see Art Modell, takes his team to some city that says hell yeah, then the old hag city says hell yeah, now that we are the mistress we will put on the slutty clothes and high heels to lure in someone else's husband. Why not just bite the bullet and keep the team you have, and not have to go through all the BS?
