StarCraft in Korea
Just thought I'd share this pic I snapped last week when I was in S. Korea.

Yup, that's a match of StarCraft. Had some pretty intense commentary too!

Re: StarCraft in Korea
MLG hosts a fairly large SC2 tournament in the United States.

Next one is at Anaheim July 29-31. It also has a livestream of all of its tournaments, including SC2 of course. The stream is good quality, and you'll usually have one of the big named SC2 commentators doing it live. The MLG Pro Circuit currently has three main titles: Call of Duty: Black Ops, Halo: Reach, and StarCraft 2. In 2011, we’re holding five Regular Season weekends, all leading up to a National Championship weekend that represents the best of the best of competitive gaming. We've already been to Dallas and Columbus; now it's time to hit Anaheim.

Re: StarCraft in Korea
Yeah they've been doing that for quite a while in S. Korea. I know there were also broadcasting warcraft III matches when that was the big game.
e-sports will catch on (soon) in the united states. Prize money keeps getting higher and higher for tournaments and the community is growing so fast. If you think about it, more people probably play video games than sports, the audience is definitely there.
League of Legends season 1 finals were just held at Dreamhack in Sweden. They had a $100,000 prize pool, first place getting 50k. And the live stream had over 200,000 people watching at one time, and reported over 1,000,000 unique watchers over the course of the tournament. Quite impressive.
In the fighting game scene, many tournaments are now offering $5,000 or more to first place. RevaLAtions 2 weeks ago was $10,000 to first and there are many others that do the same or more. Madcatz and Hori are both sponsoring players in the fighting game community now (they are the biggest providers of arcade style joysticks in the world).
It's starting to catch on, once more big name companies start to sponsor players you will begin to see video games on TV in the U.S.
